Make sure to pay attention to these items before your home is inspected.

When it comes time to sell your home, there are a lot of little things that will show up on your buyer’s inspection report that aren’t a big deal if you take care of them ahead of time. Here are six of the main things you should do before the inspection:

1. Pour Drano down the pipes. If you’ve lived in a house for a while, there’s a lot of gunk in the drains. You want to make sure they’re flowing freely because a clogged drain can put panic in buyers’ minds.

2. Service and clean the A/C. Save the receipt as well.

3. Get GFCI plugs. If you don’t have them in your wet areas, install them before the inspection. Sometimes these switches can be tripped, and you might have a plug that’s not working. If that’s the case, the GFCI just needs to be reset.

4. Make sure all utilities are on. This is important for vacant homes because the inspector will have to come back twice if they aren’t switched on.

“You should have GFCI plugs in all of your wet areas.”

5. Make sure there is room in the garage for the inspector. The inspector needs access to the water heater, electrical panel, and attic. If you are storing things in your garage before you move, make sure they have a clear path to those areas.

6. Call your insurance provider and look at the roof. You’ll be prepared to file a claim if it does come up in the inspection.

Being proactive about these things will save you time, money, and headaches. It’s nice to know everything ahead of time before someone else starts pointing out all your house’s flaws.
