Here are the next steps to follow once you accept an offer on your home.
Congratulations—you’ve accepted an offer on your home! But what comes next? Here are the steps you can look forward to now:
1. Pause all showings during this time. The buyer will order an inspection, and once you know the date, you should make a plan to be out of the house for a couple of hours on the day of the inspection.
2. Order the appraisal. Once the appraiser has finished their assessment, we’ll let you know if their appraised value meets your listing price. Then, you should be clear to close by the title company, meaning that the buyer’s finances are all in line, and you’ll be able to close on time.
3. Start packing up your belongings.
4. Final walk-through. The buyer will do a final walk-through to ensure that the home is still in the same condition as when it went under contract. Be sure to keep the utilities on for this phase. Here’s a pro-tip: Double-check to ensure that the spout isn’t leaking when you disconnect your washing machine.
5. Finalize the paperwork. After the final walk-through, you’re ready to sign the final documents and officially pass ownership over to the buyer.
