Here are six critical mistakes to avoid if you’re buying a home.
Here are a few mistakes that all homebuyers should avoid to ensure a successful purchase:
1. Waiting until the last minute to get pre-approved for a loan. Do it now. Contracts are taking anywhere from 40 to 60 days to complete, so the time is now to start doing your research on getting pre-approved.
“You have to show that you have income to make a home purchase.”
2. Buying expensive things on credit cards. Don’t buy a new car or new furniture while you’re in the process of buying a home. It could throw off your debt-to-income ratio.
3. Changing jobs. You have to show that you have income to make a purchase.
4. Waiting to write that offer. In this market, buyers can’t afford to hesitate. If you walk into a house and you feel like it’s the right one, go ahead and write that offer right away.
5. Not being represented in a new construction purchase. If you’re deciding to build your home, that’s great. However, you need representation as a buyer to ensure you get a good deal.
6. Not making an offer because you’re renting. Landlords are flexible in this market and you shouldn’t be hesitant about buying while you’re still on a lease if you give them enough notice.
